THE CUT-OUT TOP

As we begin to see apparel and intimates move closer together, cutout detail continues to grow in trend. Consumers want more body-conscious and sensual items, predominantly made in jersey or knit; they don’t take away from comfort or affordability either.

The cut-out trend fits into the current youth trend of subversive sexy. The cut-outs are often placed in more suggestive areas using slits and repetitive patterns, often over the chest and shoulders. It is a current revive of the current Y2K style so colours and patterns are often bright and fun transitioning from day to night easily.

Older clients will be using the cut-out trend more for layering, cold shoulder elements are very popular amongst this demographic.

On the catwalk

Many designers stuck more the the sexy look with cut outs using silky fitted fabrics and flattering neck lines.
